Year Of Luigi Anniversary Card!

By LUDWIG VON KOOPA - My Kirby plushie is in it.

We all know the "Year of Luigi" is Nintendo's attempt at making that bastard's twin brother more relevant. To review, it's to promote games Luigi is in like Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, and New Super Luigi U. It's all just marketing (despite some on Miiverse claiming that something special might happen by the end of 2013 — I think it'll be Christmas, not anything Luigi-related!) and because marketing on Facebook can be particularly cheap, Nintendo of America held submissions for a Luigi 30th Anniversary Card. And I won!

See? Click that and...
Obviously I care more about Kirby than Luigi.

Kirby's Dream Land is only 21 years old, but I was referring to Kirby's franchise portrayal of him as a baby Star Warrior. And I also have the best Kirby picture in the card, the only other one being... this.

What the hell is this?

Now, you may take note that the introductory message says Nintendo has taken "all of your anniversary messages [emphasis added]", but it simply wasn't the terms of the contest that all would be accepted. In fact, I doubt all submissions there ARE present, despite some very terrible-looking submissions. It's a 27 picture width and 33 picture height card, so that means 891 pictures are present. However, some of the tiles aren't actually filled in (I counted 8), so it's a bit less than that (893). You think of the 2.3 million people on Nintendo's Facebook page, not even 900 people entered a guaranteed-to-win contest? In fact, the contest said, "Shhhhh. Don’t tell Luigi, but he is getting a giant card from all his fans celebrating his 30th anniversary. Share a personalized message for a chance to appear in his card! [emphasis added]" And over 2,000 people Liked that post, so I believe this is some degree of accomplishment. And mathematically, they could've done a 26x34 card and have room for 884 entries, which means they would only need to stick one blank entry in. Obviously the 27x33 format is therefore by choice, which means there was some exclusion, which makes my entry being present an accomplishment. GOT IT?

Of course, you may remember this picture from the Best Buy experience articles. I still haven't worn that hat after the article I wrote about... wearing the hat. I'm proud of that picture and want to share it to the world as much as I can!

While I'm on the subject, why is it called New Super Luigi U? There is no old one. Miyamoto, do you really need to tell us it's new like you've done so many times before?

Anyway, since all the Year Of Luigi games are now released, what will Nintendo do for the last 1/3 of the year? If you got an idea, sound off in the comments!

When the year ends, the Year of Luigi community on Miiverse will be destroyed like the E3 2013 community was. Good riddance, it's a terrible community anyway. Ludwig doesn't post there. But if you want him on your activity feed, Follow him at NNID PrinceOfKoopas!

The year has finally ended. Turns out there were more games!
